As a Tenured Professor of Physiology at Eastern Virginia Medical School, I have dedicated my career to relentlessly pursuing knowledge surrounding cardiovascular dysfunction in hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). During the years, my laboratory's research has played a pivotal role in unraveling the mechanisms at play, placing special emphasis on the roles of immune cells, inflammation, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and oxidative stress in cardiovascular complications associated with hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and HFpEF. My research, documented through more than 90 original peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals such as Circulation, Diabetes, Circ Res, ATVB, Cardiovascular Research, and Hypertension, reflects a commitment to excellence in cardiovascular research. These publications show my expertise in cardiovascular physio-pathology, covering diverse topics ranging from cardiovascular structure and function to signaling pathways. I have successfully navigated research challenges with ongoing programs addressing hypertension and type 2 diabetes-induced cardiovascular complications. These endeavors are underpinned by the support of NIH grants, highlighting the significance and impact of my contributions to the field. I actively engage in shaping the scientific landscape. Serving on an NIH study section to review grants allows me to contribute to evaluating cutting-edge research proposals. My role as an Associate Editor at Scientific Reports empowers me to play a pivotal part in peer-review and editorial decision-making for a prominent scientific journal. A central view of my professional journey has been a commitment to mentorship and training. I am impassioned about nurturing the development of students and postdoctoral fellows in basic and translational research. The success of my research program stands as a testament to the dedication and talent of those individuals who have collaborated with me, advancing our collective understanding of cardiovascular physiology and pathology. Looking forward, my dedication to advancing knowledge in cardiovascular complications associated with hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and HFpEF remains unwavering. I continue to leverage my expertise to contribute meaningfully to the scientific community and to translate research findings into advancements that can prevent and cure cardiovascular complications, thereby improving the lives of individuals affected by hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and HFpEF.
